What is the Mid-Atlantic Drum Camp?
 

  • The Mid-Atlantic Drum Camp is a drum set camp offering drummers, ages 9-22, of all levels  the chance to improve their skills by working alongside some of the best drummers in the world.

When Can I Register?

  • Registration Starts February 10, 2025

When and where is the camp?

  • Dates: July 12-17, 2025

  • Location: St. Mary's College of Maryland, St. Mary's City, Maryland, situated about 90 miles south of both Washington, DC, and Baltimore MD.

  • Check-In: Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM

What is the price?

  • The 2025 MADC price is $800 per student. Returning students receive the returning student discount via email after registration.

Is there an early registration discount?

  • Yes!   Early registration price is $725. This discount expires Monday, February 25, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Full payment must be completed by         April 30, 2025 to receive early registration discount.  Note ➤ the rental kit fee of $100 is not included in the early registration discount.

Who is teaching at the 2025 camp?

  • Artists for the 2025 MADC include Matt Garstka,  Juan "Carlito" Mendoza"     Alex Cohen, Willie Howell, Sheila Klotz, Andrew Ferguson and Bobby Boyd.

What should I expect at the camp?

  • Expect lots of drumming, opportunities to try out the latest drum gear, explore new concepts and exercises, participate in jam sessions every night, and enjoy great meals and snacks.

What are the payment options?

  • If you register after the early registration deadline, the first payment is due on May 15, 2025. The balance is due on June 15, 2025. Monthly payment options are available upon request by emailing somardrummers@gmail.com.

  • If you need a rental kit, please add $100 to your payment and select the Rental Kit Option on the Registration Form.

What is included in the camp?

  • The camp fee includes housing, meals, WiFi, a t-shirt, drum swag, snacks, beverages, and more. 

  • Rental Kits are available for an additional fee.

Where will I stay during the camp?

  • Students will be roomed with another student in air-conditioned, key-access dorm rooms with free Wi-Fi.

  • Parent chaperones are present in learning areas and dorms 24/7 for safety and assistance.

  • Single rooms are available for an additional $35 per night.

What bedding should I bring?

  • Students and parent chaperones should bring bedding for a TWIN XL bed (a sleeping bag and pillow will suffice).

What are the requirements for Parent Chaperones?

  • Parent chaperones must have a police background check. There is no fee for chaperone room and board. Parents interested in being a chaperone should email somardrummers@gmail.com. Please note that parents are not allowed to stay overnight with their student unless they are a chaperone.

I live near the college, can I commute?

  • Yes, commuters pay the same price as overnight campers, and meals are included.

Do I need to bring a drum set?

  • Yes, you need to bring your own drum set.

  • We have a limited number of rental kits available for an additional $100, reserved for students arriving by air.

  • Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

What drums should I bring?

  • Bring a 3-5-piece kit including: a rug, snare & stand, bass drum & pedal, rack tom(s), floor tom, ride & stand, 1-crash & stand, throne, and sticks. Additional cymbals, double kick pedals, foot aux pedal, stacks, and Latin percussion are optional.

Do I need to read music?

  • No, you don't need to read music. While basic drum notation can be helpful, it is not necessary.

What are Skill Groups?

  • Students are organized into Skill Groups based on their video submission. These small groups provide an optimal learning environment where instructors can give personalized attention to each student.

How are Skill Groups assigned?

  • The Artists & Educators of the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Drum Camp will review each student’s video and assign them to a Skill Group. Students may be moved to a different group on the first day of camp if necessary.
